Pavilion Policy FAQs:

Q: How much does it cost to reserve a pavilion?

A: Our current fee schedule.
To qualify for the residential rate the applicant's legal residence must be within the boundaries of the City of Oneonta.

Q: What dates are available for me to reserve a pavilion?

A: Pavilions may be reserved for any day from May 1st to October 31st. Permits are issued on a first come, first served basis. To check the availability of a specific date, call the  clerk's office at (607) 432-6450. No dates will be reserved until a completed application and fee is received by the clerk's office.

Q: When does the city begin accepting applications for reserved usage of parks pavilions?

A: For Oneonta city residents, the clerk's office begins accepting applications on the first Friday of March for the upcoming reservation season. Non-city residents may begin submitting applications three weeks later.

Q: What is the cancellation policy?

A: Fees are non-refundable unless cancellation is made at least two (2) weeks prior to scheduled usage. A cancellation date will appear on your permit.

Q: What is the maximum capacity of each pavilion?

A: Large pavilions can accommodate 200 people. Small pavilions can accommodate 30 people.

Q: Can we have alcoholic beverages at our event?

A: The presence or consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited unless a permit is obtained. Applications for permits for consumption of alcoholic beverages must be obtained from the City Clerk or by calling 432-6450.  The cost is $25.00.

Q: Do the pavilions have electricity?

A: Electrical outlets are available at both large pavilions. Small pavilions do not have electricity.

Q: Do the pavilions have running water, restrooms?

A: There are restrooms and hose spigots at both large pavilions. The nearest public restroom to the Neahwa small pavilion are the ones located at the large pavilion. The nearest public restrooms to the Wilber small pavilion are located at the Waddington Tennis Courts.

Q: Are there grills available at the pavilions?

A: Yes there is one large charcoal grill at each pavilion. If additional cooking space is required, another small charcoal grill may be used. Large cooking pits, gas/propane grills, and open fires are prohibited.

Q: Is music permissible at my event?

A: Yes but the volume must be controlled. A city representative may require the elimination of music if it is too loud.

Q: Will the pavilion be cleaned prior to my arrival?

A: The pavilion will be cleaned once each day by the parks maintenance personnel. The City of Oneonta is not responsible for clean-up resulting from informal public usage which may take place prior to or between reservation usages, or usage which results from multiple reservations for the same pavilion on the same day.

Q:  Do I need a reservation to use a pavilion?

A:  To use a pavilion exclusively, yes. Informal pavilion use is allowed, however, informal users must share the space with other informal users and yield the site if a permit holder arrives.

Q: What do I do if there are informal users at the pavilion when I arrive for my event?

A: There are signs at each pavilion explaining the reservation policy. Present the users with your permit and let them know you have the pavilion reserved. If a problem persists you can call the Oneonta Police Department at 432-1111.

Other regulations governing reserved use of parks pavilions:

  • Payments must be made via cash, or check or money order payable to "City of Oneonta."
  • For each one hundred (100) people using a pavilion, one (1) designated responsible adult shall be present and accountable for the entire period of time the pavilion is reserved.
  • The City of Oneonta reserves the right to monitor any function by having their duly authorized representative(s) present during such functions.
  • Groups using the pavilion are responsible for any and all damages resulting from their usage. If there is any question of accountability, the person(s) in whose name(s) the permit is granted will be held responsible.
  • Users must 1) pick up all trash, secure trash in bags and place bags near trash receptacle; 2) remove all decorations and materials used to secure decorations; and 3) keep restrooms clean and litter free at all times.
  • City parks close at 10:30 p.m.
  • All posted "No Smoking" notices must be observed.
