SUNY Oneonta
SUNY Oneonta is a mid-size, public college rooted in scholarship across the liberal arts and sciences. As a member of the State University of New York, the college’s small classes, opportunities for undergraduate research, and student/faculty interaction are as attractive as its cost.
Initially established in 1889 as a state normal school, Oneonta has become a premier school of the SUNY system. The college’s strong alumni network spans the globe, demonstrating the leadership and accomplishment that exemplify a SUNY Oneonta education.
Multicultural and community engagement define the student experience. Through the college’s Center for Social Responsibility and Community more than 20% of students donate time to a local organization or cause. In recognition of the college’s civic partnerships and service learning activities, the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching awarded SUNY Oneonta its Community Engagement Classification in 2011.
Increasingly recognized for its quality and value, SUNY Oneonta has been named to Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine’s list of “100 Best Values in Public Colleges” for six years running. The college also ranks in the top 50 in U.S. News and World Report's 2013 ranking of the Best Regional Universities in the North and was one of only five institutions in its region to earn a spot on the 2013 U.S. News "Least Debt" list, which highlights colleges whose 2011 graduates had the lightest debt loads.
